God just longs to be at the center of our lives. This is one of the major lessons that we will continue to learn through the back half of the book of Exodus, seeing the directions concerning the tabernacle. He longs to fellowship with his people. He wants to be at the center of our lives. He wants to be in a relationship with us.

This week, in Exodus Chapter 18, Moses is going to interact with his father-in-law, a man named Jethro, and receive important counsel from this man. This counsel is going to impact generations of the people of Israel. And Chapter 19 of Exodus begins the process of God delivering the law to the people of Israel from Mount Sinai.

This week we look to Exodus chapters 16 and 17. At this point, in the book of Exodus, God has delivered his people from their Egyptian captivity. The three sets of three plagues have been brought upon Egypt. The angel of death came upon Egypt for the 10th and final plague. The Passover occurred, and the people of Israel were commanded to go, given riches and wealth and treasure from the Egyptian people and urged to go on their way. God had redeemed a people for himself.

God is greater than all gods. No one can compete with God. No ideology, no man, no movement, no religion, no god of our making. No goal or mindset or mentality that is contrary to him is greater than him. God is the greatest. This is the sentiment that we should come away with in studying Exodus chapter seven through 13. When looking at the plagues that God unleashed upon ancient Egypt in order to deliver his people, Israel, from their captivity and from their slavery. In our last study in the Book of Exodus, we saw God begin the process of calling Moses to be the figurehead who would be the deliverer, the prophet, the instrument that God would use to deliver the people of Israel from their slavery in Egypt. They of course had grown in Egypt over a number of years, over 400 years and had gone there originally as a small family with favor from pharaoh because of Joseph and the good success and ministry that he had executed as the right-hand man of pharaoh, but Exodus tells us that a day came when a pharaoh arose who did not know Joseph.
